I'd assume that the 2GB limit is based on the motherboard only being able to access that much RAM, but I'm not 100% sure so perhaps someone else will comment on that. Any compelling reason to not just use it rather than the current Mint 16? Maybe Mint 16 is bigger and uses more resources?

Does anyone know if that is a hardware limitation or is it just a limit on the version of Windows that used to be on it? In other words, if I put Linux on this laptop can I also change the ram so that it will have 4gb? I assume I would need a 64-bit Linux? I am thinking about using the current Linux Mint.Ī few years ago I played around a bit with Linux Mint 8 and it seemed pretty good. Note that it says the maximum supported ram is 2gb. Here are the specs (I have a 250gb hd instead of the 100gb in the original specs): I have an old Gateway MX8711 laptop (Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2060, 2gb, 250gb hd, 17.1" screen).
